Why we chose that name

Makalu is the world's fifth-highest peak — on the Nepal-Tibet border and the heart of our homeland. We named this restaurant after it because everything we cook is rooted in that place.

The dream that brought us here

We came to Massachusetts as immigrants with one goal: to share the true taste of our homeland. Opening on Massachusetts Ave in Arlington was our way of chasing that dream.

Momos, our heart and soul

Every momo is handcrafted in-house — steamed the traditional Nepali way or tossed in a fiery chili sauce. They're the dish that built our regulars and put us on the map.
